Before I knew it, summer vacation had started at school, we’re in the middle of a three-day weekend, and summer is in full swing here on the main island of Okinawa.

And as is the way of the world, where there’s a beginning, there’s an end.

The Aguni expedition, which began in late April, has now come to an end for us divers this season.

Thinking that the thrill of waking up at 3 a.m. will be gone for a while makes me feel a little sad…

No, not at all (laughs).

So, off to the Aguni expedition!

Air Temp: 33°C, Water Temp: 26–28°C, Visibility: 25m

We had an incoming tide all day, which gave us a favorable current that made it easy to exit the no-surface-swim zone.

Today’s guests said they weren’t interested in giant trevally.

So, we went for the grand slam with a wide-open route and ended the season on a high note.

The only downside was that I left the GoPro battery in all day, so it ran out…

Anyway, every single shark we saw was a gray reef shark.

I was looking for polka-dot or wave-patterned ones, but… they really were all gray reef sharks.

Even so, we saw a massive Napoleon wrasse, schools of big-eyed trevally, giant trevally, and yellowfin tuna.

Even without specifically targeting giant trevally, Awaguni offers truly wonderful diving.
