USS Emmons

Slide 1

The USS Emmons, sunk off the coast of Kouri Island in northern Okinawa Island, is known as one
of the largest shipwreck sites in Okinawa. With a massive hull approximately 106 meters long, its
overwhelming presence underwater is well worth seeing for shipwreck enthusiasts. The
shipwreck was sunk during World War II, giving it significant historical value, making it a special
spot where you can experience history underwater while diving. With a maximum depth of
approximately 40 meters, it's a diving site for advanced divers, and a deep diving license is
recommended. The depth allows you to fully enjoy the contrast of light and shadow and the
sheer power of the shipwreck. Soft corals and tropical fish are scattered around the shipwreck,
making it a unique diving experience where history and nature blend together.
