Today is the summer solstice.

It seems this is the day when the sun’s influence is strongest—the day with the longest daylight and the shortest night.

So, drawing energy from the sun, we split into two groups for expeditions to Kerama and Aguni!

First up, the Kerama team

① Kamigusuku, ② Uchizan Reef, ③ North Kuroshima

On the way, we spotted coral fragments bobbing on the surface… so we switched to manta mode.

After warming up at Kamigusuku, we headed to Uchizan Reef… but no manta rays were there.

“Let’s head to Kuroshima!”—but while en route, we spotted a southern manta ray in hunting mode right at the surface!

We enjoyed snorkeling with it!

At Kuroshima North, we encountered a school of southern yellowtail! It was quite a sight.

Meanwhile, the Aguni expedition!

Here, too, we spotted a manta ray at the surface, and dolphins were playing with us—our excitement grew.

Dives ①–③: Fuden-zaki

Today, the Bigeyetrevally were in an easy-to-spot spot, so every team spotted them right from the first dive!

On the second dive, we were able to witness a thrilling scene right before our eyes: a school of giant trevally attacking from a “tornado” formation until the action exploded.

So, for the third dive, we decided to head out to the “Outside” to chase our dreams.

Along the way, we had high hopes—first a school of gurukun, then a school of kusayamoro… but they turned out to be just ordinary schools.

That said, this was still a thoroughly rewarding expedition!
